From: rmt66@juno.com Subject: Eagles-Eylau (APL) Q&A I played a game of Eagles-Eylau a while back and my opponent and I had some questions. Attached are answers as provided by Stephen Jackson: Q: > I also found that some formations on the setup are called formations, while others are called forces. What's the difference? A: Forces = Formations. Originally all were called forces. It changed to formations and the change was missed on one card. Q: > We also felt that color-coding for formations (including leaders) would have been a BIG help.> A: The infantry divisions are color coded on their command bar. I assume you mean the artillery, cavalry too? Leaders aren't coded as they can change from scenario to scenario, and I believe they all have ratings in case a "design your own" feature comes along later. Q: > Is there any way the Russians can WIN the Battle scenario?> A: It can be done. Russians have to take full advantage of ability to retreat and save step losses. Q: > Is there a way to tell Towns from Villages/Hamlets? The special rules refer to 3 "Towns" that absorb a hit, yet one of these "Towns" (Kutschitten) is shown on the TEC as a "Village/Hamlet." Which is it?> A: Eylau is the only "Town". Originally it was planned to have the Red text names be villages, and Black ones be hamlets. Late in the game's development it was decided that the other two would have the town benefit as well. Q: > Blue dashed lines -- what EXACTLY are these? We guessed the limits of he Rise that block LOS.> A: They are a visual boundary to a Rise. You are correct. Q: > What are the symbols on the cav for? Got that the Blue Banners are irregulars -- is the French "Bav Cheval Leger" irregular? -- and the shading show Heavy while the lances show Lancers. What about horns, bells, or "gravel behind the horses?"> A: Except for the shading, banners, and lance it's merely for decoration. Q: >. Why do some units who will never use their Command or Initiative rating have one? Did we miss a time this would come into play?> A: Nope, its in case a design your own system comes out later. Q: > What is "DUE NORTH?" For squalls, for instance, what if 2 areas lie North of the initial squall area? Which one gets the first extra squall marker?> A: Whichever one is more nearly North, or North of the rough center of the area. For example, take 049. 027 and 048 are both North of it, but 048 is north of the middle of 049. Q: > Line of Sight -- how exactly is this traced? From the middle of an area to the middle of another? If so, what is the "middle?" From unit to unit? If so, what if multiple units are firing/getting fired on?> A: The middle is what looks to be the middle, it isn't rigidly defined. If the LOS crosses any blocking depiction, LOS is blocked. In case of grey areas, interpret it liberally. Q: > Why is Blucher in the game? Will he ever enter? What about the Prussian HQ?> A: Blucher was put in for DYO reasons. Prussian HQ is usable under Special Rule 6.2 in the 'Two Days' scenario. Q: > If you do Command first, then Attachment, this means the unassigned French Cav start the first turn Out of Command. Is this right, or can they start the scenario attached?> A: See S4. The cavalry squadrons are considered to be in command during the first turn of an assignment. Q: > Is LOS blocked if artillery on a rise are firing at other units on a rise with a rise between them? Or are they all considered on the same level?> A: Same level. Future games may have rises of different levels (rises on rises?) but none of the three so far have. Q: > If the attacker is on a rise, assaulting a defender on the SAME rise, does the attacker lose 25% of the dice?> A: No, between them, they are on level ground. Q: > VP counting -- if lost steps are recovered, do these still count for VP purposes?> A: No, these weren't actually losses, they represent disorganization that was later reorganized. Q: > Can Cav charge via a diagonal?> A: Yes. Q: > Russian Reserve Artillery -- what if you NEVER roll a 5 or 6 for reassignment (like me). Can they do ANYTHING? Move? Fire when the HQ is activated? This was unclear.> A: Can't do anything. Those guns were limbered up awaiting orders. They can move with the HQ. Q: > If a Cav charge is repulsed, does the defending leader get to add his tactical to the repulse fire?> A: Yes. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
