From: John J Chantis Subject: WW II EastFront Survey Results OK consimers, Here are the results from the survey that I initiated in July. I wanted to get at least 30 (good) responses, & possibly in the 50 area. Ended up with 26-27 responses, about half were fully completed responses, the rest were "partials." Some of the titles that recieved votes by responders were not counted b/c the games did not fall w/i the scope of this survey. There were more than a few borderline calls here. I tried to include as much of the data as I could. Due to the above set of facts not all of the categories A-C will add up to the same number of points or votes. Let me explain the point weightings. For each of categories A-C, the 1st-3rd choices rec'd 10, 7, & 5 points respectively. This represents about a 40% increase from 3rd-2nd, 2nd-1st. In this scheme two 3rd place votes equals one 1st place vote, three 2nd place votes just exceeds two 1st place votes, etc. I did not want to use a point weighting that had a large ratio from 1st-3rd. My reasoning was that considering the many dozens of titles to choose from, a title picked 3rd shouldn't be worth much less than a title picked 1st or 2nd. If responders picked two titles for a particular category (or picked 3 but 1 title was rejected) the 1st & 2nd picks rec'd 8 & 6 pts resp. If just one title was chosen per category, it rec'd 7 pts. The above two cases represents a compromise form alternative point assignments. Could I have picked a worse month than July to do this? (I know the answer) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subject/Topic: WW II East front STRATEGIC or GRAND OPERATIONAL wargame titles ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Consult web-grognards WW II East front list (fm Mark Boone) unless you're sure or hv another reference. C That you think are the best OVERALL, i.e. taking into account ANY criteria that you want to, AND (now be honest ;-) ) that you have played fm start to finish - OK, for "monsters" you can relax the 2nd condition to played until mental shell shock set in. Aw hell, if you're "familiar" enough w/the bigun, & want to pick it, go ahead. Pick titles that didn't involve heavy use of "house" rules or varients (the rules provided or made up kind). Even among responders in a consim list - playability edges complex simulation (fantasies?). *D Select ONE title. Pick the WW II East front strategic/grand op'l title that you think made the _greatest impact_ on the wargaming hobby overall, & Eastern front board gaming in particular. (regardless of if you've ever even owned a copy, as long as you are familiar w/the game/title) If you pick two titles, they'll each get one-half of a pt/vote. AH Russian Campaign 7.5 - 9 See the above results. I'm slightly GDW FitE/ SE 6.5 - 8 surprised by the results in D. SPI/AH PzGrp Guderian 3.0 - 4 Nevertheless, it's TRC again. SPI WitE 2.5 - 4 AH Stalingrad 1.0 - 1 I wonder what the results would've been w/50+ responses, esp. for the top ranks. Would it have made that much of a difference? There is one & only one title that can be chosen as "most popular" from this surveys results, originally from down under - THE RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN. That's all folks. ********************* * jjchanti@uncc.edu * *********************
