ROAD FROM SUMTER TO APPOMATTOX II is a really nice game. This is a really in depth game with alot of playability. It reminds me of Civililzation. (Oh, is it 2am, I need to go to work.) I have literally have lost hours playing RFSTA. To be honest, outside of the first bug, I have never seen the other bugs listed. I have found the AI to be very competent. It has managed to give me a trouncing or two. There is a learning curve to the interface, but after a few attempts, I found that the right mouse button is the one that works. The production and naval portions are easy to handle. Blockading the is key to the Union strategy, just as invading Washington is important for the CSA. The manual is poor with some very bad grammar. It fills you in on what the menus do and some hints, but it lacks a tutorial. Worse, it doesn't even have the correct proccedures for installing the game on the computer. Regardless of the manual, RFSTA is well worth the investment in money and time. I am about to begin a PBEM game. I am also looking at using the system as a campaign system for ACW miniatures. Here are some of the features from the box. Every major commander in in it's database of 125 historical leaders. Each leader is rated for inspiration, aggressivness, initiative, and combat. The employment of leaders is vital to victory. The player has full control over leaders assignments, promotions and removals. A movement system based on weekly turns with simaltaneous movement on a ground scale of 14 miles per grid point on a map stretching from Mexico City to Philadelphia and from the Bahamas to Kansas City. Movement by foot, rail, and water is possible. Three combat systems, one, a detailed tactical combat system that covers the battle in hourly rounds at the brigade level over generated maps at a scale of 400 meters per grid point. Two, a quick resolution system that covers the largest battles in minutes, and three, the ability to move the combat outside the computer to be resolved with miniatures or another system. Detailed production and supply systems based at the state/national levels allowing the player to build the army and navy of his/her choice. The economic system includes blockade runners, foreign trade and production based upon historical population of each state. A full naval system that contains individual ironclads, regular warships, and transports, each in both river and ocean going versions. The naval system focuses on the shipment of cotten from Confederate ports to Europe, Union amphibious operations and the amphibious invasion of Mexico by Napoleon III. Players control the construction of force allocations of their nations. Even the Confederate player may embark on an ironclad building program. A scenario editor allowing players to tailor almost every aspect of the database to create their own scenarios lasting months or covering the entire war. There were a few bugs found, and they have been corrected with the current incarnation of version 1.12. As HPS simulations does with its products such as TIGERS ON THE PROWL and AIDE DE CAMP, ADANAC Command Systems is doing the same. Providing great support and upgrades to improve the game as a result of user input. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: SVGA monitor (VGA moniitor may be used with 16 color version 3 Megs of RAM, 550k of conventional memory, 386 processor, mouse and MS-DOS 5.0 or higher.
