From: "David L. Richtmyer" Subject: 3DoG questions/answers Below are some 3DoG questions that I sent to Rich Berg the other day; his answers follow my questions. Note the interesting GLORY note at the end of the message. Hi, Rich. Been playing 3DoG's Herr Ridge Scenario for a couple of weeks now, and have a few questions re: the rules. Q. When you roll on the Confusion Table a number of things can happen to the brigade, including charging, bugging out, not doing anything at all, etc. When you roll "9", a random event happens. Regardless of what the random event is, does the brigade that failed the ME roll do nothing (i.e., do they treat the 9 as if they had rolled a "Stand"? A. Yes, unless the event says you can roll again . . . Q. Can an Arty unit move into a breastwork hex as long as it moves in behind it (i.e. in the open edge)? A. Yes Q. An already disordered unit is pushed back due to Displacement. It fails the UDD. What happens to it--lose a strength point? A. It Routs. Q. Why isn't there a mod. for shooting through the rear of a unit (as it stands right now, the Fire Table only gives a +1 to Flank fire). A. I'm not sure . . .I know I had a reason. Go ahead and use a +1. Q. By about 10 AM I had Brockenbrough's brigade threatening the crossroads/v.p. hexes around A3517. A lone Union regiment, the 8th N.Y., was defending. The 40th Va., with B-brough aboard, shock attacked after having disrupted 8th N.Y. with some fire. As it turned out, the shock die roll ended up being a modified 9. 8th N.Y. failed the UDD, and routed. Because 40th Va. could always shock a routed unit from the rear the die roll always was high enough to continue shock. Well, ol' B-brough and the 40th Va. continued shocking the hapless Yanks right off the map (down the road that conects A3517 with A4304). This caused B's brigade to stop dead in its tracks with their fearless leader taking a joy ride towards G-burg. Sooo, does a shocking unit that rolls 7-9 HAVE TO CONTINUE TO SHOCK IF IT DOES NOT WANT TO? If not, can the brigadier junp off the unit to still retain command of the rest of his not-quite-so-power-drunk boys? A. Shock Continuation as a result is a MUST, not a "may"--except I think for a 0-2 and Defenders. Q. A disordered unit reacts (5.1.6) to enemy movement that brings the bad guys to its flank. It then fails the UDD. Does the already disorderd unit have to lose a strength point; retreat a hex; or no penalty at all? A. Same as #3: Routs. Congrats on a fine system with beautiful artwork/graphics. The whole package is marvelous. Went on vacation to the South Jersey Coast last month; forced the family to spend the night in, oh, this little town in Adams Co., Pa. on the way. Took the maps with me (I had preordered the game (#255)) out on the Emmitsburg (sp?) Road. I won't forget that one for a while; it was like driving back into the 19th c. Elevations around Devils Den and Lil' Round Top were perfect. Finally, can you give me a hint as to what is coming in the new GMT Glory game? Gene said it was 2 maps, 2 countersheets, and a slightly more detailed version of A5A. Do you see this as the replacement for the Battles and Leaders series? Will Rick Barber do the maps again? >As for GLORY, it uses a system with minimal rules (6 pages) and virtually >no charts. It is a very distant cousin of A5A. Covers both Manasses and >Chickamauga, is very accessible and (hopefully) quite challenging . . . >and it includes 4 ways to play it!!! I've been told Barber will do the >maps . . . .RHB David
