Sounds like an interesting game.

In general, the joint between the Brits and French (the Michel area) is the
worst place for a German offensive, as it allows both Allies to feed troops
quickly into the battle. If you are going after the Brits hit between Ypres
and Bethune. If you are going after the French the choice will depend greatly
on their set up, but in general the area between Rheims and Verdun is best.
IMO.

As for the errata in AQ, there is more than I would like, but so far not so
much as to hurt the game's reception.

<< now for some questions:

can units exploit across a river? rule says yes but the terain chart says
no.<<

Yes, but units allowed to exploit 2 hexes must stop after crossing a river.

>> strat move of hq's - this is very confusing. can only acitve hq's strat
move? if so, are these acitve hq's from the prior turn? if so, then strat
moves should be done before flipping hq's? then these strat move hq's can
not become active in the turn they strat move?<<

Only Active HQs can strat move. HQs are never active from a prior turn-all
HQs become inactive at the end of the turn (or the start of the HQ Phase of
the next turn-same difference), and then you choose which to activate anew
each HQ Phase. An activated HQ that Strat moves may not Barrage or provide
Command that turn, but still counts as activated for morale and HQ activation
limits.

>> can an hq put unit sin command & then move 1 hex to put more units in
command? if not, we is command judged relative to when hq's can move?<<

In my original rules HQ s were moved first. In the published version that
restriction has been dropped, so as the rules are written an HQ MAY put a
unit in Command, then move one hex and put other units in Command.

 >>retreat directions for the allies only allow retreat in westerly
direction.
the retreat rules mention a priority of not adjacent to enemy units.
 which takes priority?<<

The retreat direction has priority.

 >>do u.s. reinforcements enter on the west map edge?
if so, can they use railroad moves in the first turn to head into action?<<

Read 9.2. US units can enter through any friendly supply source mapedge hex
(west or south map edge). Units are placed on the map edge hexes in question
during the Reinforcement Phase, and are free to move by rail or do anything
else normally allowed during the Operations Phase.

 >>are 2 of the paris hexes an (A) for morale loss purposes? they are very
 hard to read.<<

All Paris hexes are A hexes. This IS Paris after all.

 >>river hexside comabt modifier - does it aply if any attackers cross the
river or only if all attack across the river?<<

Only if ALL are across the river.
