From: johnson@ferret.cig.mot.com (Brad Johnson) Subject: [SUCCESSORS] A few new clarifications In a recent game of AH's Successors, we came up with the following questions which I couldn't definitively answer from the rules and the published errata, so I sent them to AH. I got the following reply the same day, and I thought others in this group might be interested. (Thanks to AH!) Brad Johnson (johnson@cig.mot.com) Q1) Why are some distance measurements given in movement points (MPs) and other given in spaces? For example, you can only place new garrison markers within 2 MPs of existing onces, but independent armies can move 3 spaces (apparently regardless of actual MP cost). Should these differences be taken literally, or should "spaces" actually be interpreted as "MPs"? A1) Use literal word and meaning. Spaces do not equal movement points. The differentiation is deliberate. Q2a) When new generals are drawn from the Tyche deck (i.e. Eumenes and Seleucus), can they be placed in any space in their optional starting area? A2a) Yes, but only one without enemy CUs (see 8.6). Q2b) What if there is already an enemy garrison marker there? An independent marker? A2b) These do not matter. Q3) Does the errata for 8.6 imply that every space that is devoid of an enemy garrison or independent marker in the optional starting area should gain a friendly garrison marker? A3) Yes, if not occupied by enemy CUs (and Independent armies are enemy CUs too). Q4) When one of the Tyche cards that activates an independent army is played, can the army just activated also be moved 3 spaces? A4) Yes. Q5) Must the Helepolis be built in a space containing a general already on the board before the card is played, or may it be built in any space if a new minor general is placed with it? A5) It cannot be moved and is of no value in your own space. It is placed with a general on an enemy major city (the enemy major city itself requires that you have a general on the board already). You cannot place a minor general in a space not containing your CUs, so the option to place the minor general won't exist--you will already have one or a major general in the enemy controlled space. --Stuart K.
