From The Wargamer, Vol.2, no.1 During the development of Marlborough we decided to dispense with a number of charts. Unfortunately references to these were left in the rules, creating a certain understandable bewilderment in the minds of players. Happily most people seem to have realized that there was in fact no missing information. Specifically, you should keep track of the army and detachment strengths on a scratch pad (use the markers provided alongside writ ten unit designations). Off-board economic values are indicated on the map, with possible modifications given in rules 11.5 and 11.11. Action Costs are listed in rule 4.42. The Map 1. There should be a bridge between Strassburg and Keitl. 2. Givet should be in France, Aix la Chapelle and Saarlouis should be part of the Empire. These changes do not affect the game, but should be noted for historical accuracy. Counter-Mix 1. Clarification: the Franco Bavarian army should use the #4 magazine. 2 "T'serclaes" was misspelled. 3. The Dutch units are listed in the rules as having a green background. A misplaced overlay caused some of them to be printed brown. Rules 4.6.13: Villeroi rolls a 3 (not 6); the Allies roll 4 (not 6). In the pursuit, the result is 15% (not 10%), so there are 9 prisoners (not 6). The French loss is 52% (not 37%), so they are demoralized for 6 turns (not 4). 4.6.13, second example: (Malplaquet): should read ". . . the Allied 8-2 minus the line for 8-1. Subtract the Allied value to give the French 8-1. The Allies roll 2, that is, 10% for 11 French dead (110 x 10%). The French roll 6, that is, 6-1 - 7 or 30% for 24 Allied dead..." 4.9.1: (line omitted) Only Armies may conduct sieges (not detachments). 4.9.3: (clarification) Third sentence: an HW result means that all garrison fac tors, including the organic garrison, are removed to the nearest friendly force or fortress (defender's choice). 5.3 line 6. The Burgundy counter should have a value of 6(-). The counter is correct. 10.3: should read ". . . the 1708 on the Moselle, and Treves (V-22), Landau . . ." 11.7 line 6. For 'return' read 'retain'.
