Crete - 1941 supplement Air rules Any number of luftwaffe planes may bomb a hex. Gliders may only fly the GL units once and after being used are removed. While paratroops may drop anywhere gliders must land on airport or clear terrain hexes only and the landing hex must be free of enemy units. Do not roll on the drop chart for gliders. Naval and ground flak may combine to fire at luftwaffe units. The allied air unit may intercept if on the playing board or on a carrier and it may also support allied ground attacks. The luftwaffe may intercept only if based on crete air bases. A specific hex must be chosen for intercepts. Ju52 units may drop the paratroops by means of the drop chart and they then are sent to the off board section of the map. If they land "non" paratroop units they must land on Crete air fields and remain there that landing turn. The field must be free of enemy units when they land. Ju52's may never be used in attacks. Naval rules Ships may fire onto coastal hexes only regardless of range in the case of BBs which might fire two hexes and be adjacent to a coast hex. Artillery must be transported by ship never by plane. Ships landing ground units must remain there (next to a port) that turn. Suda bay is the exception in that the town is inland so you may land on the coastal hex NE of the town. You may never land troops or artillery onto a square containing enemy units. The allied player may vacate from the north or side hexes of Crete but no points are allowed for these evacuations. Sympathetic allied players may allow the axis to re-use the cargo ships if they are all sunk. Ground rules Roads negate the stop on mountain rule if you are traveling thru the mountain hex on a road. Move along roads as though they were clear terrain - remember armour doubles movement on roads. Units starting a turn in the same hex as enemy units must move or fight.Remember while there is no zoc (zone of control) combat is mandatory when enemy ground units enter the same hex. The CRT (combat results table) rule mentions that EL is negated for the attacker only if he has support troops i.e. artillery, flak or tanks. If you wish you may apply this to the defender as well. In an attack where EL is called for and both have support then both lose a unit. This makes in even more important for the Germans to try to get artillery to the island. Errata Two spelling errors in the rules may cause confusion. Foreced should be forced and no paratroops in the combat rules should read 'non' paratroop. Also the airfield north of Canea is on the directly due north hex or the hex that would be number 1 on the drop chart miss areas.
