Dave Boe - May 12, 2004 7:09 am (#196 Total: 205) My name is Dave, and I am a wargamer Questions: 1) For the set up for day three, who is placed in the Ephiates box? One rules says just the Immortals and another states a Greek contingent as well. 2) How does day three end? The same as days 1 and 2: when the Persian contingent roll results in a contingent already played? 3) Since the Immortals are coming on at some point during day three, I'm assuming other Persian contingents are still available to be brought on in addition? ATO Support - May 12, 2004 8:42 pm (#197 Total: 205) "War is a matter of vital importance to the State; the province of life or death; the road to survival or ruin. It is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied." - Sun Tzu 1) Both Sections 5.2 and 5.3 are correct. For Day 3, the Immortals are placed in the Ephiates Box first, followed by the selected Greek contingent (historically it was the Phocians). Note that the Greek contingent selected for the Ephiates Box takes no further part at all (historically the Phocians sort of quietly withdrew up the mountainside). 2) Day 3 ends with an automatic victory if one side routs due to Army Morale failure or if the Persians roll the same contingent up again - count VPs then and compare. 3) Yes. Dave Boe - May 13, 2004 6:52 am (#198 Total: 205) My name is Dave, and I am a wargamer Thanks, but one more thing: If the Greeks roll for, say, 3 contigents on the conference table, doe that mean two are set up on the board and one is set up in the Ephialtes box? ATO Support - May 13, 2004 7:08 am (#199 Total: 205) "War is a matter of vital importance to the State; the province of life or death; the road to survival or ruin. It is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied." - Sun Tzu Yes. Section 5.3 states that the Greek Conference roll occurs to determine how many groups stay, and of the groups that stay one must be put in the box. (The Greeks are meant to be thin on the ground on Day 3). Dave Boe - May 13, 2004 8:21 am (#200 Total: 205) My name is Dave, and I am a wargamer Not to be pest (well, maybe), but Paul R. says ONLY the Immortals go in the Ephialtes Box. If, however, one of the remaining Greek contingents DO go into the Ephialtes Box, but are ignored, that begs the question, WHY even have a contingent placed there on Day 3? Shouldn't the conference table relfect only the number of contingents that actually are placed on the map ATO Support - May 13, 2004 10:10 am (#201 Total: 205) "War is a matter of vital importance to the State; the province of life or death; the road to survival or ruin. It is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied." - Sun Tzu It's just a nice touch....ignore it if you want to and don't put any Greeks in the box but then don't put them into play on the map either. Remove that now [extra] group as well. Or for an optional rule, if you send anybody except the Phocians to the box (the Spartans can't be, remember) add +1 to the Ephialtes Table die roll when determining the Immortal's turn of entry. Dave Boe - May 13, 2004 10:41 am (#202 Total: 205) My name is Dave, and I am a wargamer OK. Thanks for dealing with my persistant questions. I was playing along just fine when these concerns put an abrupt halt to the bloodshed. Todd Zirkle - May 14, 2004 7:52 pm (#203 Total: 205) Action Round Question I have a little question concerning Action Rounds. The Example in the Updated Rules (Section D. I believe) Do you move the Action Round marker on the track after each section (Example: Finish Persian Movement, move the Action Round Marker to 2,Finish Greek Defensive Fire, move Action Marker to 3 etc.etc.)Or do you Complete Section D:1-9 eight times? Stephen Rawling - May 15, 2004 7:33 am (#204 Total: 205) "Hegemon" of Against the Odds Magazine Todd, You complete Section D:1-9 up to eight times (someone may be utterly destroyed or routs, cutting things short) then do the End of Day check. Todd Zirkle - May 15, 2004 8:24 am (#205 Total: 205) Ok That's what I thought, but I was just checking to make sure I was doing it Right.Makes for a Long Game. Thanks
