Here are some clarifications for the COA game Jena, provided by Ed Wimble in response to issues arising in a game I'm participating in. Andy Ed Wimble - Sep 8, 2006 8:38 am I'll work on these as the day goes on. 1 - When attacking across a river bridge, aside from the combat DRM what other restrictions are there? We worked on the basis that only 1 unit could attack and our rationale was that the bridge can only be crossed in road column and that means no stacking. 1.A. Yes, stacking restricts how many units may attack across a bridge. Since this puts a whole lot of emphasis on the morale of the attacking force, the elite units tend to be the ones this burden falls upon... and lots of artilly support. Sometimes even a cavalry charge may do the trick. 2 - When in road column and entering a town is stacking allowed if the unit ends its movement in the town? Road col rules suggest not as the RC is in force throughout the move. But the terrain effects on mov't mean there is no bonus for road order in a town anyway. If the RC rules are followed strictly then units have to trickle into towns over several turns. 2.A. Follow your intuition here. The rules sound too restrictive and make entering a town and building a stack a game in and of itself. So yes, units may enter a town and join a stack regardless of having used the road advantage. 3 - What are the rules for Road Col stacking of Napoleon's escourt squadron? Can they stack in RC? 3.A. Treat this unit like Prussian fusiliers. That is they can always stack in the hex with Napoleon regardless of other units also being there... so long the increment stacking restriction for the hex is not violated. 4 - In the Forced March Only turns the rule refers to Corps leaders who pass their initiative (modified). From the spelling we have assumed this is French only. Is this the case or can Prussian Korps leaders move too? 4.A. Prussian Korps leaders may force march. 5 - Does an Artillery ZOC (when in a fortified town) act exactly like a cavalry one in as much as it does not have an effect across a river hexside bridged or otherwise? 5.A. Yes. 6 - Do ZOC's (with particular reference to Artillery ones) apply at night? 6.A. Yes.
