From: thespoon Subject: OSS errata Alan, I have these two files. Under: Regular Attack Action, it says Sov units can't retreat to either Sov held or German held areas in the rules, but Table E note says only Ger. areas are forbidden. Use Table E note. There is no NO-FREEDOM OF ACTION marker. It should be the flip side of the marker noted as FREEDOM OF ACTION. There is reference to an Action Summary which doesn't exist. Would've been nice too. Under: Appeal Action rules, it says to take an FoA+1 marker if an X occurs. It should be if an * occurs, since X doesn't occur on that table. Under: Determine Sov Target Areas, it says determine German areas to be attacked by drawing chit and applying result found in lower left corner. There is no result in the lower left corner, so use the notation under ATTACKS. Doug Murphy Subject: Official errata & clarifications for Der Kessel Date: Tue, 12 Aug 1997 08:38:41 -0600 From: Doug Murphy Reply-To: Conflict simulation Games To: Multiple recipients of list CONSIM-L Newsgroups: bit.listserv.consim-l C L A R I F I C A T I O N S (from the OSS website -- there's some great alternate rules there too which I'll try to paraphrase)... Game Scale (page 9, middle column): The entire mapboard represents territory approximately 35 by 65 miles. Battlegroups (page 11, left column): These are represented by the grey counters labeled A-F. Hollidt (extra counter): If Relief Force entry area is D, use the Hollidt counter to represent the Relief Force. Hoth is used if areas A-C are chosen. Rules concerning Hollidt are the same as those for Hoth. Table D Results (page 24, bottom): 2nd line under "Results": this modifier applies to both the Luftwaffe and the Relief Force commitment rolls. Rumanian units: Rules concerning "German units" apply to "Rumanian units" as well. Extra Counters (e.g. Council of War, Schmidt, Rumors): These counters are provided for use with the Optional Rules provided at the OSS website. E R R A T A Action Summary (referred to on page 10, right column, but omitted): The Action Summary would come in very handy as a reference for players. ACTION SUMMARY Action Cost Limits Appeal 1 IP 1 per turn PDM 2 IP (or 4 supplies)per activation/creation countermix Movement 1 IP and 1 supply per 5 areas (or fraction) moved -- Tactical Attack 1 IP and 2 supplies 1 per turn Create Battlegroup 2 supplies per creation countermix Evacuate Wounded 1 IP per 3 (or fraction) evacuated -- Surrender free mapboard activity ends Regular Attack 1 IP (plus up to 3 supporting supply) per area attacked -- Appeal Action (page 10, right column): It appears that the "X result" that is mentioned should read "* result". "Breakthrough marker" (mentioned on page 12, top of left column): There are no Breakthrough counters provided; blanks may be used. Determine Soviet Target Areas (page 12, left column): Insert these definitions after the sentence ending ... "lower left corner": "None" means no Soviet attacks occur this turn; "All" means all adjacent areas are attacked; "Even" means all even numbered adjacent areas are attacked; "Odd" means all odd numbered adjacent areas are attacked; "Any 3" means are three adjacent areas are attacked (German's choice)." German Collapse: Immediate Effects (page 12, bottom of middle column): First sentence of this section should read: "Immediately roll one die for each German unit (exception: do not roll for HQ unit)." Morale Level in Historical Scenario (page 21, top of left column): Starting Morale should read "33" instead of 32 (e.g. 20 regular areas (20), 4 Key areas (12), Relief Force in Box 1 (1) equals 33). Variable Scenario Setup Table (page 21, bottom left): No instructions given. Doug Murphy
