Arthur Goodwin - 03:59pm Jun 26, 2002 PST (#393 of 393) Simon Strevens: #1) May units with 7 MPs retreat into unoccupied but owned hexes in an enemy ZOC? #2) Is the 1-7 Arm Car II ACD/1s missing? #3) Does carting a supply point in Africa by a combat unit reduce it's movement? If so, by how much? Does this movement reduction affect an ability to retreat through ZOCs as per Q1 above? #4) Does the historical deployment of the German SW Africa forces to Angola take precedence over the minimum garrison rules? AEG: #1) Yes, but only if there is no vacant hex not in an enemy ZOC the unit could potentially retreat to. Note also that if a unit does retreat to a hex in an enemy ZOC the unit is either reduced to cadre/remnant strength (if they were at full strength prior to the retreat and have a cadre or remnant side), or totally eliminated (if already at cadre/remnant strength prior to the retreat or if they are a unit without a cadre or remnant strength) as a result of the retreat. Note: Rule 9I (Retreat before combat) says that if a unit retreats before combat "follow the regular rules of retreat (Rule 9F2) for retreat before combat"; Rule 9F2 lays out a 3-tier system of retreat priorities (that must be followed even when the retreat is voluntary). #2) Yes. As noted in the errata that should have come with the game, when the ACD/1s counter is called for, instead use the British 1-7 Arm Car [II] LAB/4-5 which is in the game and not normally in play at the same time as the ACD/1s unit. #3) Hmmm... You have discovered a disconnect in the rules. What Rule 37H (Operations in Secondary Theaters) should state is: "Supply points are logistics items (Rule 12H); however, a ground unit can cart (Rule 12H2) a maximum of one supply point at a time; while doing so it may not cart any other logistics items and has 2 MPs deducted from its movement rating." #4) The situation you describe cannot occur. First, "historical" OB events (except for naval losses) are optional, thus you can always opt not to transfer the forces. Second, even if you do carry out the historical transfer, there are sufficient forces in German SW Africa that the garrison limits will not be overreached. In the example you cite, the Oct 14 historical OB entry calls for the transfer from South Africa to Angola of 2x 3-2-7* Mtd Rifle [X]s and 1x 1-7 Mtn Fld Art [II]. This is all the active German forces in South Africa, but the Germans do have a 2-6 Mtd Rifle [X] which began forming in German SW Africa in Sep14. Since the minimum CP garrison requirement for German SW Africa is 2 REs, and per Rule 44E10a (Area Garrisons in Africa) forming units may be used to satisify the garrison requirement, the 2-6 Mtd Rifle [X] (2 REs in size) forming in German SW Africa is sufficient to satisfy the garrison requirement when the rest of the German force departs for Angola.
