Imperial Ambitions is a simple space combat game that arose from two sources: 1) a request on the Grognard's site for a space combat game that would allow large numbers of individual ships to be manuevered, and, 2) a request by the wargame club I belong to that I put together a simple "one-page" design, rather than the 16-32 page games I usually design for the club. The original version, in fact, was just one page for the tactical game, and one page (the other side) for the strategic game, plus a half page of optional rules. Because it was for experienced wargamers, certain basic concepts (like hexes, movement allowances, etc.) were omitted. After a couple of playtests, and some minor revisions, I fleshed it out to the game you see now, incorporating all the optional rules/counters (since everybody used them) and "finishing it" with all the basic rules for non-wargamers. Theoretically, I'm putting this up as a PDF file on the Grognard's site as "shareware," which all of us know really means freeware. However, If you like it and feel inclined to offer a small reward, say $10 or $20 (or $1,000 if you feel like it), that would be nice. I could use the money to help pay for materials for my next design. Send the "reward" to: Kelly Everitt, 1180 N. 9th East St., Mountain Home, ID (USA), 83647. If I get any decent feedback, I'll put some of my other designs up (most of which are more traditional simulations of real battles). I can be reached at ritankelly@msn.com.
