From: Thomas Meier Subject: Re: [consim-l] MonsterGame Con Allan, We were able to post to consimworld during the event but not connected enough to give you live updates here -( There are pictures aplenty and more coming on the consimworld web site of the different games played and people playing them. I played Korsun Pocket which i had not played before nor even seen before arriving there. My friend had sent me a copy of the rules which I read on the plane out there. I was the First Ukrainian Front commander (one arm of the pincher and about 650 counters) Joe Blanchette had the 2d Ukr Front and about 900 counters and Rob Robertson was the germans with the rest (total 2000). It was not until the dust settled that I realized just how many counters we had been pushing around every turn. It really took on a life of its own as I had to just assign division objectives in my mind and anytime I came across a unit with that designation, I moved it to that mission (like screen, mopping up, hole puncher etc). It was pretty awesome. The event itself was really first class. I was awestruck by the quality of facility and organization John Kranz accomplished pretty much on his own with event help from Skip Franklin and incredible patience and support from his wife Becky who helped at the Con and took care of their two young kids too! Tempe Mission Palms is a 4-5 star resort that got had great rates thanks to the summer [nothing like record highs the first day, something like 110 degrees] but hey we were inside gaming and it was a 'dry' heat. Pool, fitness center, shopping right there, great restaurants right there - my wife joined me on Saturday and had a great time, we then stayed two extra days for a little vacation together and got the same con rate and included breakfast. The group of gamers was great, everyone was there to play a monster and I believe there faith that the Con was a great idea made it happen and successful. Folks wandered from table to table and shared their experiences freely and often. I got to see anumber of games I had not seen before. I recommend checking out the discussion topic 'monsterGame.Con' at consimworld for more. I imagine I'll post more later. Start planning for next year now.
