Even On Calm Days
They Expected an Atlantic Stormâ„¢

BALTIMORE, MD - September, 1997 - From September 1939 through May 1943,
the German Wolf Pack submarine force sunk 2,452 Merchant Marine vessels
carrying 13-million tons of needed war materials for Great Britain.
However, the Allies had learned how to defeat these deadly weapons and 1943
marked the end of The War of the Atlantic and the end of the powerful
undersea U-Boat force. By this time, Germany had lost 84% of its submarine
fleet (696 of their 830 sub's were destroyed).

Avalon Hill Game Company's (NASDAQ: MAHI) new card game, Atlantic Stormâ„¢,
recreates the tension experienced by seamen during those uncertain times of
World War II. As a Merchant Marine sailor you never know when the storm
will hit. As a member of the Allied escort fleet you search for the
killers of the deep. As an Axis submariner you hunt your prey and hope to
remain undetected.

Game play in Atlantic Storm is fast and fun. Its simplicity and
replayability is reminiscent of Avalon Hill's highly praised Titan the
arena card game. The players fight a battle for each convoy, with the
winner of the battle receiving the convoy as a prize. If you're a sub
commander you receive the point values of the other player's cards, as
well. Lots of table talk keeps the game exciting as opponents attempt to
negotiate with one another to thwart the efforts of the leader. During the
War of the Atlantic, heavily laden convoys were worth more to the U-boats
than those returning to reload. This is true, as well, in Avalon Hill's game.

Atlantic Storm includes two decks of cards. One deck comprises 40
historical convoys. The force deck consists of 110 cards representing
fighting forces of the two opposing sides. The force deck is evenly split
between the German cards and cards for Great Britain and her allies. While
the great majority of the Allied sea losses were inflicted by submarines,
the game accounts for losses to each side from air or surface based action.
Even the German's fear-inspiring battleship Bismarck has a role to play.

Atlantic Storm (Item # 910) is a card game for 3 to 6 players. It
appeals to both wargame enthusiasts as well as to those who enjoy a quick,
fun and challenging game. The game will be shipped this November and carry
a suggested retail price of $XX.XX.
