From: Patrick Collins Subject: Mayfair's Morgan's Rifles and Falklands Falklands 1914 is a good introductory game. The Germans have fewer numbers of ships and no edge on quality, either. But they move off map, while the UK forces are on map at all times. The German must sink merchants and not be sunk. The UK must protect merchants (and is penalized for having them hole up in Stanley, he must move them off map to the east) and sink ALL German warships. The map is large, about 17 X 22, and the counters have only names and silouettes, with a generous supply of tracking sheets supplied to track damage. Combat is simple, you roll two dice against your ships number for each turret. If you hit, you roll one die for location. Check off the boxes on your sheet. You have three areas, hull, turret, and control. If you lose all turrets, you can only torpedo attack. If you lose control, you "to hit" number get worse. If you lose your hull, you sink. Movement is area, only one area at a time, or out of port. The only port the UK can enter is Stanley, the Germans can not enter a port. I agree with Doug M's posting that the game is hard for the German to win, but it is fun to play. Falklands 1982 uses the same map. -- Regards, Pat Patrick R.
