From: Christopher Salander Subject: Game review #3 Gettysburg by Chatham Hill Games Game warning by Chris Salander Gettysburg is a "tour" game of most famous battle of the American Civil War. Unlike Chatham Hill's $7 - $12 games, which are "desktop-publishing" quality, this is a full color game with a mounted mapboard that can cost at least $25. I am writing this short note not as a review, but as a warning to wargamers. After finding one or more of the simpler Chatham Hill games interesting, you may see the big, full color Gettysburg box and say, "Oh, that must be an even better wargame!" It is *NOT* a wargame. It is a "path" game, like Uncle Wiggly. Players move their pieces (with pictures of soldiers) around a fairly detailed map of the battlefield. They gather information and answer questions about the battle. There is no combat. If you have young children and you would like to interest them in board games and teach them something about the Battle of Gettysburg, then you might buy this game. But it is not a wargame.
