From: Tel 51410 <"Stig Pilgaard.OLSEN"@SDT.CEC.BE> Subject: Re: The Russian Campaign On Dec. 6 Scott Schul asked for information about The Russian Campaign . It's an absolutely great game. The rules are quite simple and easy to remember, and the turn sequence is a straightforward move-combat-move-combat system (meaning that the game is good for play-by-mail). Another attractive feature is that both sides get a chance to be aggressive. The Russians are running like rabbits until the first snow, then the front stabilises and a war of attrition begins until the Russians finally move west. A couple of hints for the German: use AV (automatic victory) attacks to penetrate the Russian lines in turn 1, go for his workers, and try some unexpected setups, like transferring a couple of panzers from AG Centre to Rumania - they won't be able to attack in the first impulse of turn 1, but they can completely bring Uncle Joe out of balance. Once I tried this I forced a Russian surrender after the first German impulse of turn 2 (are you reading this, Marc?). The weather is all-important. If the sun keeps shining till November (which it rarely does) the Germans can celebrate Christmas in the Kremlin, while mud in September followed by three snow turns is disastrous (well, depending on your point of view of course...) Try some of the scenarios. I am currently p-b-m'ing the one with the March/April attack without minor allies except Finns. It's fun, but I find it a bit worrysome that I am in deep goo as the German already in Dec. 41. Does anyone have any experience with this scenario? Do play it, Scott - it's one of the best games I've ever come across. Stig
