From: Jim Gordon Subject: "The Schlieffen Plan" I just got issue 90 of Moves and the back cover advertises "The Schlieffen Plan" from "Der Weltkrieg" Simulation Series (Schroeder Publishing & Wargames, http://web2.airmail.net/spw1). The ad blurb reads: "The Schlieffen Plan covers the fluid warfae of the Western Front from 1 Aug 1914 to 15 Nov 1914. "It is the first of a series of historical simulations designed to interlock to allow you to simulate the operational level of all of WWI, WWII & Modern Conflicts across all of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Each simulation is self contained. Yet, tied together, they will allow you to control all aspects of land, sea &air combat, as well as production and politics from 1914 to the present and beyond. "This Simulation was designed with realism and Playability as overriding concerns. Each Simulation in the Series uses the same basic rules, vastly reducing learning time. "The entire Series is already done, as this picture [graphics look first rate--JG] of the 16' x 13' map shows. As the stock of each module is depleted, the next module will be at the presses. NO multi-year waits for the next module. "Scale is 20km/hex, 4 days per turn. Unit sizes: Division/Brigade. 560 Backprinted Counters. "Only one print run of each module will be made, so there will be limited quantities and limited time for you to order. "Available through Decision Games. $29.95." Has anybody heard anything about this game/series/publisher? I can't tell from the promo how many modules there will be in the series. Each map section might be 16x13, but I don't know if the 560 counters are the total for the whole series. I tried the URL and got "no such location." Regards, Jim Gordon jgordon@library.berkeley.edu From: Dick Shay Subject: Re: "The Schlieffen Plan" It was being sold by Decision at Origins. I saw it set up and abandoned by M Hermann and R Berg, so look for a review. I asked Mr. Berg why they had moved on to another game. He said, "read the stacking rules." Adjacent 13 counter high stacks look a little unwieldy. Map was a little busy, too. Dick Shay 617-466-4173 rshay@gte.com Within GTE: http://cnsmacic.gte.com/users/rshay/
