Mike Boeck - 08:29pm Dec 1, 2000 PST (#4361 of 4362) Currently playing: The Devil's To Pay; TK! Lucky devil me was the first prepubber to receive The Devil's To Pay today, so I'm gushing here and there about El Carto's new module for Summer Storm. Here's a sample: Mr. Postman delivered the Devil today, and I already did a mini-gush over in OOTW. I don't see how anyone who has Storm won't want Da Devil, and the Devil/Storm combo is hard to beat, but for folks still on the fence, I'll say this: 1) The scenario and field in the Devil is a great what if? for the Gettysburg campaign. Rather than stumbling into each other as they did when they met at Gettysburg, and seeing Lee bring on a fight regardless of its advisibility, the Battle of Yellow Breeches Creek makes more sense operationally. Meade is presented with a grand opportunity to crush the ANV and brings on the battle rather than defend; Lee has the advantage of terrain as he seeks to hold off the AoP and concentrate his forces while simultaneously raiding Harrisburg for all he can get. Unlike G-burg, time is of the essence for both sides. The battle, and perhaps the Wo-Wuh, will be won or lost that day. 2) The Devil is a further break from the 'same armies coming up the same roads' sameness of G-burg games. Summer Storm's op game already does this; The Devil goes a step further. 3) The Devil is a one-day battle, and can be played in a day, rather than Storm's long, long weekend. 4) The rules for the system have settled down. 5) The map for The Devil is a step up from the already terrific Summer Storm map. According to El Carto, the printer job got the colors right for once, and it shows. Storm was already the best damn map and counter art job out there according to many; The Devil is even better. 6) There is another module for Storm in the works (Pipe Creek). I could go on. Get it before its gone.
