Robert (my son) and I have played LGNCG again. This time, he was the Japanese, and he came in with 19 points! What he did was save up all his airpower for one huge, simultaneous attack. Although I still carrier-raided it on Clark Field ... of course ... over half survived, thanks to abysmal (die) throwing luck. Anyway, his main battleline survived carrier strikes to take on TF34 -- all 6 of my modern battleships ... and escorts -- and obliterate it, albeit taking significant damage which further airstrikes and then the old battleships took full advantage/measure of, wiping out *his* entire battleline (at the cost of MARYLAND). An interesting sideshow: he sent his cruisers after my fast carriers (TF38) in the Sibuyan Sea. One -- ENTERPRISE's group, TG38.4 -- had already been damaged and was easily run down. The others had to escape SE and into map column D, thereby activating additional Japanese air reinforcements and the second Kamikaze! We later debated whether he should have gone on past my old battleships to annihilate the transports, which are also big point makers and far easier prey. I ended up with 20 points, and after the game, Robert pointed out that if the Japanese don't commit ships (or subs) at all, they would probably/statistically get 19.5 points, so I've adjusted the victory requirements accordingly. He found the game MUCH more enjoyable playing the Japanese/attackers, albeit still too long for his taste. (I think it went for a total of 4 hours, although we took plenty of time out for snacks, insults, etc.) Lou Coatney http://LCoat.tripod.com (LGNCG and other free boardgames) __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
