Todd Warner ... I received Tiller newest game on Vietnam today. I have played a couple company size battles so far and I'm suitably impressed and here are some of my general impressions for those still sitting on the fence wondering about this game. IMO, this is probably the closest adaption of ASL from a board game to the PC. If you have played any of Tillers game, the interface is the standard interface with new commands: Ground: To order your men prone/standup Load/Unload: From vehicle or to pickup or drop weapons Rotation Command: For vehicles Select Loadout: Allows you to select (e.g. M-79 can either shoot 40 mm HE or Cannister rounds) Rally Units: You can have your command units to try and rally pinned or demoralized troops Your forces are composed of your Troops (Co/Bn), Vehicles (tanks, boats), Support (Artillery, air) and helicopters. Overall in the database there are ~62 various vehicles modeled (tracked, helicopter, aircraft, artillery, amphibous, naval). During your turn you have a certain number of Action Points and you have the choice of moving and/or shooting (or some combination of). Your opposition has the ability for "oportunity fire" during your turn. In general during your turn you can move, shoot, call for support, assualt positions. Some of the things that caught my eye during my short play is: + Weapons Loadout Choices - you choose what type of ammunition to fire, and which elements in your squad to fire. + Pickup/Drop Weapons - Don't like that M-16, kill some VC and get you a new AK-47 + Command Relationships/Radios: Your commanders/platoon leaders better lead from the front (but not to far) because they are critical in rallying the men. Also to use your air/artillery support, you must have a leader with a radio. + Multitude of objects including obstacles, mines ( 3 types: booby traps, AP mines, command detonated (claymore)) and boats like the PBR from Apocalyse Now. If I was gonna find any potential flaw - it would be that it comes with no manual (but there are "ready to print" versions of their online manual). This does not bother me, I just loaded up the printer with 63 pages of paper and printed it off for my secluded reading time. I have found the sound effects to be done very well. Can't comment on the AI as of yet but in the 2 game I have played I have lost both, but that is more due to me learning the system and just see how things worked.
