Nothing beats a Biblical-scale epic batte that lasts ten minutes (less time
than it takes for a can of Dr. Pepper to get warm)!
Here's 40-point "DYO" Armies for Biblical and other Near Eastern Armies from
1000 BC to 500BC. I have included possible names for leaders based on actual
leaders and approximate dates they lived.

***HEBREWS (to about 700 BC for Israel, to about 600 BC for Judah).
KINGDOM of ISRAEL (capital Samaria) and
KINGDOM of JUDAH (capital Jerusalem).
4xLI, 2xHI, 2xCH, 1xMM.
Possible Leaders: King David of Israel (1035-972 BC),
King Solomon of Judah (992-925 BC), King Jehu of Israel (890-815 BC).

***PHOENICIANS (from about 900 BC to about 700 BC).
Capital: Tyre.
3xCH, 2xMM, 1xHA, 1xLI.
Possible Leaders: King Hiram (999-936 BC).

***ASSYRIANS (from about 900 BC to about 600 BC).
Capital: Nineveh.
3xCH, 3xMM, 1xHI, 1xHC, 1xLI.
Possible Leaders: King Ashur-Nars-Pal (912-859 BC),
King Tiglath-Pilaser III (774-727 BC), King Sargon II (763-705 BC),
King Esharhadon (713-669 BC), King Ashurbanipal (692-626 BC).

***EGYPTIANS
I have divided the Egyptians into the following groups:

**MIDDLE or PRIEST-RULED EGYPTIANS (from about 900 BC to about 700 BC).
Capital: Thebes.
3xHI, 2xCH, 1xHA, 1xMM.

**LOWER or LIBIAN-RULED EGYPTIANS (from about 900 BC to about 700 BC).
2xHI, 2xCH, 2xMM, 1xLC, 1xHA.
Possible Leaders: King Shoshenk (976-914 BC).

**NUBIAN-RULED EGYPTIANS (from about 700 BC to about 600 BC).
2xHC, 2xLI, 2xMM, 1xHI, 1xCH, 1xHA.
Possible Leaders: Pharaoh Sabaka (761-695 BC).

**PSAMTIK'S or FREE EGYPTIANS (from about 600 BC to about 500 BC).
2xPX, 1xHC, 1xHA, 1xLI, 1xMM.
Possible Leaders: King Psamtik (693-610 BC), King Necho II (658-595 BC).

That should cover Egypt o.k.

***PERSIANS
I've divided the Persians into two slightly overlapping eras:

**MEDIANS (from about 600 BC to about 550 BC).
Capital: Ecbatana.
2xPX, 2xHC, 1xLA.

**ACHAEMINIDS (from about 525 BC).
Capital: Persepolis.
4xHA, 2xHC, 1xLC, 1xLI.
Possible Leaders: King Cyrus (590-529 BC), King Darius (550-486 BC),
King Xerxes (520-456 BC), King Artaxerxes (484-425).

That's it for Persians.

***BABYLONIANS
NEW BABYLONIAN EMPIRE (capital: Babylon!)
2xCH, 2xHA, 1xPX, 1xHC.
Possible Leaders: King Nebuchadnessar II (624-562 BC).

I hope these lists will be of use to Ancients players, they can modify them to
fit their own campaigns or scenarios. I used small, 40-point armies because the
main attraction to this game for me is the quick-playing aspect of Ancients, so
the faster the battle, the better, in my opinion!

I should mention the date for New Babylonian army is about 600 BC to about 550
BC.

The other information that was not included such as: "Possible leaders for
Middle Egypt" was because I didn't find any during my limited research time!
