From: Ted Raicer Subject: Re: All Quiet....Allied variant setup? << Dear Ted, In a series of exchanges about AQ you alluded to the fact of the developers altering your original allied setup from allowing setup anywhere as long as the existing trench line is covered. would you be willing to make an "official optional rule" ruling for that? I for one think the allies should be allowed more latitude in their initial deployment as they did have more substantial reserves than currently allowed in the setup of AQ. thanks, steve sickels >> Steve, I can't make that an "official" optional rule because publisher's (not designers) determine what is official. I can say that I have no personal objection to player's using such a set up, though they should be aware it might affect play balance. Under such a set up use all normal AQ rules for the front line and for setting up the HQs, tanks and cavalry, but remove the limits on the number of infantry divisions that can set up in non-trench hexes. (Actually, this won't result in a big change imo, since the Allied player doesn't have enough units to form a large reserve-if the Allies tried to form a double line along any large section of the front they'd have so little in the front line the Germans would smash through easily. But it does give the Allies a bit more flexibility, and allows them to set up a more historically sized reserve.) As for the Allied defense in general, except on limited sections of the front you can't stop a major German offensive from punching a hole. What you have to do is limit the size of the hole, make the breakthru as costly as possible, and try and channel the advance in the directions you want it to go. Ted Raicer
