From: "Chris S. Giroux" Subject: Re: History of the World Variant The EXTEND DYNASTY Variant -------------------------- for use with the Rognar Bros. _HISTORY OF THE WORLD_ published by AH Devised by Chris S. Giroux and refined after some feedback from rec.games.board in late 1995. INTRODUCTION Whereas _HISTORY OF THE WORLD_ is lacking in providing players with an empire building experience, and yet the beautiful board and pieces effectively transport a player away to past epochs and areas of the world where more could be done to carve out an empire, the following variant has been devised. CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL The Extand Dynasty variant allows a player at the start of any epoch after the first, to play again the empire he/she controlled in the prior epoch instead of playing a new drawn empire. The player must declare this intention prior to the drawing of the empire cards, and will still draw a card with the option of keeping it or passing it, but the player will not play this empire during the epoch. Other players may pass an empire card to the player exercising this option. The player receives a number of units equal to the victory points gained in the last epoch by actions of the empire played in the last epoch. He may expand or build upon the empire created or played during the last epoch. This option may be exercised during mulitple and even consecutive epochs. Thus, a player could extend the dynasty (play again the empire) of the third epoch by collecting a number of units for Epoch 4 equal to the VP's of the empire defined by Epoch 3 units of his/her own color. Then the player may build upon the empire he/she controlled during Epoch 3 with the current units. Note that if the option to extend dynasty was used again during Epoch 5, only the portion of a player's holdings with Epoch 4 units on them would be used to calculate VP's for the purpose of determining units for Epoch 5. No change in using event cards is proposed with this variant. Feel free to contact cgiroux@awinc.com with any questions/comments.
