Subject: More Proud Monster--A Tournament Scenario From Peter McCord (pmcswat@aol.com) Proud Monster Tournament Scenario (or German Fantasy Scenario--Guderian believed that the original plan was a fantasy because there were too many German troops held in reserve) Don't use the RE tables with this scenario. Start with the regular setup of PM. Both sides setup normally, no changes, except that the Germans get none of the 28 infantry replacements (there will be no mechanized refits either). The Germans receive the 7th para at start, and my air-drop it and/or the air landing division according to DD rules. Add one air unit from DD to the German at-start total. Special Rules: The Soviets cannot trace sea supply in any way. The game is only six couplets long (the original German plan). Start with Turn 1 Couplet II (June II), and end with the Soviet player's couplet I, turn 4. Soviets receive replacements and reinforcements normally, except that all TB original die rolls are automatically "12" (possibly modified for Leningrad/Moscow). At the start of Turn 4 the Soviets may call in (for free) what's left of the Siberian Reserve, and take 10 extra RDs from the reinforcement pool. The Germans (who get no replacements or refits), receive all of the PM reinforcement units (numbered 2-12) as reinforcements on turn 2. Additionally, they receive (use any DD units) 10x 3-5-6 IDs, 2x 12-10-12 PDs and 1x 6-5-12 PD, plus any six Italian units from DD. These units represent the Afrika Corps plus German reserves stripped from France/Norway etc. These units also enter on Turn 2 (NOTE: Poland was literally full at the start of Barbarossa, that's why so many units were held in reserve to begin wit h). Add a Rommel counter--any stack he starts with that has at least one PD gets a 1R shift on all MAs/PAs, but only on the attack, no defense shift. The counter moves with that one stack for the game's duration. Move the GAS line two hexes to the West, as the Germans will have difficulty supplying all of these troops. And here's the kicker: Ignore the Victory Checks on Turns 1-4. At the end of the sixth couplet, if the Germans have 41+ VPs, the Russians surrendur and the Germans win a Massive and Earth Shattering Victory, otherwise they lose miserably. They can still win by taking Moscow (and making the subsequent 50/50 roll--if you miss the roll play on and try to get 41+). And they can still lose by sudden death ZOMO incursions. There are no draws...if the Germans fail to win, they will quickly be out of the war as Ita ly is ripe for invasion (as are France and Norway). If they knock Russian out of the war, then mission accomplished, (ahem) according to plan.
