ZRCV Retrofit Rules for Luftschiff Phil Eklund, Sierra Madre Games, November 24, 2001 The following text consists of excerpts from two e-mail messages sent by Phil Eklund of Sierra Madre Games regarding Luftschiff and ZRCV Flying Flattops, both of which are included in Airships at War 1914-1941. In the text from the first message, below, Phil describes how some of the aeroplane rules in ZRCV Flying Flattops can replace those originally included in Luftschiff. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BTW, the ZRCV rules have a couple of "aeroplane" rules (U5 & U6) that supplant Luftschiff rules when playing ZRCV, but that I recommend using at all times (I think they are superior to the original Luftschiff rules). In fact, all ZRCV rules that do not specifically state they are for special U.S. or Japanese aircraft in the Pacific theater can be used in Luftschiff, with the exception that U17 is only for post-WWI engines and that only the U.S. crews are inhibited from burial at sea per T12. In particular, the wingman (U18), advance shot (U4), forced disengagement (U7), deflection (U14), bombing (V3) and plummet (U4) rules in ZRCV can be used in Luftschiff. There is also a tiny bit of errata at the end of ZRCV that you have already unearthed. What I should do, for you to post with the grognards, is publish heavy and light AA stats on the WWI British ships, so that ZRCV rule V5 can be used in Luftschiff, and add machine gun ammo supply info, so that rule U1 can be used in Luftschiff. Also, for consistency, deceleration rates can be added to the Luftschiff aeroplane charts the same way they are recorded in ZRCV. Its just in Luftschiff, deceleration is standardized according to whether or not its engine rotates, while in ZRCV specific deceleration is recorded. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- True to his word, Phil then followed up with a second e-mail message containing the specific information he mentioned in his first message: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: If playing with limited aeroplane ammunition (reference ZRCV rule U1), the Luftschiff aeroplanes have the following ammo supply. FRONT MG 2 coins: Sopwith Baby. FRONT MG 2 + 2 coins: Shorthorn, FBA type H, Caudron G.4, FE2b/d, Avro, 2F.1 Camel, Curtiss H.12, SIA 7B.1 FRONT MG 2 + 2 + 2 coins: BE2c, SE5a FRONT MG 3 coins: 1 1/2 Strutter, RE8, DH4a (2 + 1 coins if night fighter, due to blinding effects of muzzle flash) FRONT MG 5 coins: Bristol F2.b Fighter (2 + 2 + 1 coins if night fighter, due to blinding effects of muzzle flash) FRONT MG 6 coins: Sopwith Pup, Sopwith Snipe, Albatros D.2/W.4 (2 + 2 + 2 coins if night fighter) REAR MG 2 + 2 + 2 coins: 1 1/2 Strutter, Short 184, RE8, Curtiss H.12, Bristol F2.b, SIA 7B.1, DH4a. SHIPS in LUFTSCHIFF, NOTE The ZRCV module contains do-it-yourself counters for the following WWI ships: Ark Royal, Furious, M class destroyer. Also contains counters for the 4 types of riesen bombers. NOTE That the HMS Furious can go 3 rather than 2. NOTE: If using ZRCV Table V5 for bombing ships in Luftschiff: All WWI Destroyers and Seaplane tenders are 0H, 0L. The UK battlecruisers are all 2H, 1L, except for the Vindex in the Mediterranean, which is 0H, 1L. ZRCV apologia: The Shinyo is converted from a passenger ship to a carrier by 1935 in this Operation Orange alternate history (rather than 1943). Also note that the Akagi 1941 complement of planes is changed from the Pearl Harbor historical complement (of 21 Zeros, 21 Vals, 21 Kates) for game purposes.
