Caltrop special rules- Only Light or Medium infantry can enter and STAY in a caltrop hex. If defending while in the caltrop hex 1 is added to it's defence srength( just as if stacked with another unit)and the attacker has a -2 drm to his attack roll. Heavy Inf, Cavalry & Elephants may enter and try to move thru a calrtop hex but must first roll a morale check before entering. If they pass their morale chaeck they may pass thru to the next hex . They may NOT STAY in the caltrop hex. if the hexes on the other side have enemy units in them and they can not leave the caltrop hex then they are automatically routed! To advance after combat onto a caltrop the winner must roll for morale. if it fails it routs. Victory. 1 point for every friendly Light,Medium or Cavalry unit, 3 points for every Heavy Inf or Elephant unit still in play and unrouted at the end of the game. All other Raphia regular rules or the admented rules by Mike Smith apply. For the Caltrop counters I used the ones from SPI's Yeoman. but any other counter from another game or blanks will do. This is a small battle compared to others in the Successor's wars. Ptolemy had no elephants at Gaza so he dug stakes into the ground for anti-elephant traps( GMT 's module on the battle has all the caltrops on one flank. you have the option to deploy on both if you want). I used MI's for Ptolemy's Peltast. They had become slightly more heavier in equipment and not always used as skirmishers. also the term Peltast had begun to be used as a honorific title for some heavy infantry. As for the caltrop rules, the Light & Medium infantry can move thru & stay in the caltrops because of their looser formations and be easier to defend in. The Heavier Phalanx troops would have their formation broken up trying to get thru as would the Cav, and the Elephants would not want to step on those sharpened stakes with their soft bottomed feet. and these formations would also be at a disadvantage in trying to defend themselves in there( a sure morale buster). Let me know how you like the scenario and any adjustments that need to be made. Thanks! --------------------- ConsimWorld Forum: Gaza 312 BC Demetrius vs PtolemyI( amended) -------------------- Join us! --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500?
