There are several key differences however, as described below: 1. Get rid of all the dice rolling. - All combat resolution is as follows: ~ 5-point mechs (Wolves) beat 1-point mechs (Elementals) ~ 1-point mechs (Elementals) beat 3-point mechs (Jaguars) ~ 3-point mechs (Jaguars) beat 5-point mechs (Wolves) - Combat damage is applied simultaneously. ~ i.e. 3E/2J/1W vs 1E/1J/2W = 1E/1J/0W vs. 0E/0J/0W 2. Limit total amounts of mech. - With equal amounts of mechs available, it's all about the biggest army. When mech totals are limited, it's about the right combination. - Totals per player are as follows: ~ 7 Wolves ~ 12 Jaguars ~ 25 Elementals 3. No free armies at the beginning of your turn. Instead, you get quadruple the energy you'd typically get from owning the countries and collections you own. - New units can be bought for 3 units of energy. - Commanders can be bought for 4 units of energy. - Space Stations can be bought for 4 units of energy. 4. It costs energy to move or attack. - 1 energy will move 1 unit 2 territories or 2 units 1 territory. - Attacking is considered moving, whether the attack is won or not. - The attack cost is 1 energy per 2 units. - The attack cost is only paid once, when it is originally declared, not every turn. - Only 2 cards total can be purchased per turn. Cards still cost only 1 unit of energy and have normal activation costs. 5. Commanders confer no extra damage bonus. - They do count as Jaguars for damage resolution however, bringing the total number of "Jaguar" units up to 17. - You must have the appropriate commander for the cards you wish to play, as before. - You must have the appropriate commander for space or sea travel, as before. (Space commander and naval commander, respectively.) Please direct all questions/comments to imperfect@sympatico.ca. I know the combat resolution system is a little messy, and decidedly unweildy, but anyone with a bare minimum of programming experience can whip up something to simplify it greatly. Anyone too lazy to do so can e-mail me for a zip of the source of the VB program I use.
