Desert Storm [Command #13] ========================== 14.7 Battleships (new rule). The two US Battleship Task Forces move only from all-sea hexes to other all-sea hexes in the Persian Gulf. Their movement factor is infinite. They are always in supply. The number to the left of the slash is their short-range bombardment factor (1 hex); the number to the right of the slash is their long-range bombardment factor (2 to 4 hexes). They participate in combat like regular US artillery (see also 12.6). There is no way for the Iraqi armed forces to attack them in any scenario, but Godzilla can (see 21.3). D-Elim. Our recommendation that the Coalition player bypass Kuwait City is valid only in the historical scenario. If the same strategy is followed in the MOAB scenario, the bypassed Iraqi units will still die at the end of the game, but Kuwait City will no be Coalition-controlled: the Coalition player must move a unit into each of those hexes to control them. It will therefore be necessary to attack and destroy Iraqi units in the city, then occupy those hexes. 19.8 (new rule) Lightfighters Forward! To see how well U.S. light infantry might've fared in this war add the 10th (Light) Infantry Division to any of the free deployment scenarios (counters in Command #14). Whenever a light infantry unit attacks into a Rough, Inundated, Town, or Urban hex, the enemy defenders there are automatically denied one of their terrain column shifts. Whenever defending on such terrain, the lightfighters earn their side an additional one-column terrain defensive shift beyond what would normally be awarded. These column shifts are awarded whether the combat is all-lightfighter or mixed with other coalition units. The LID units are always automatically supplied throughout the first four game turns of every scenario. The attack factors of the light infantry units are doubled when they make night attacks. The "catch" is, whenever they're in combat and losses occur, light infantry occupy the number one position on the loss allocation priority listing given in 12.12. Light infantry units never receive replacements. (Also note they're non-mechanized, but still yield the same per-step VPs as other U.S. units.) Treat the 10th's helicopters as regular AH units (the abbreviation "Avn" stands for "Aviation"). Counters. This issue's counter sheet (counters in Command #15) contains the three misprinted units from issue #13's game "Desert Storm: Mother of all Battles". Simply make the substitutions.
