Gettysburg: Lee's Greatest Gamble [Command #17] =============================================== 3.3 Reinforcement Schedule (change). Change the entry times for the following Union units on July 1st: 3G Units 54-56 (Schimmelfennig, Krzyzanowski, Osborn-a) 3H Units 50-51 (v. Gilsa, Ames) 4G Units 52-53, 57 (Coster, Smith, Osborn-b) 6F Units 58-64 (McDougall, Ruger, Candy, Kane, Greene, Muhlenburg-a, Muhlenburg-b) 11.4 Calculating the Combat Differential (addition). Odds differentials greater than "+4" are treated as "+4;" differentials less than "-4" are treated as "-4." 16.4 Restricted State (optional modification). On any turn in which an army is in restricted state and has no infantry brigades adjacent to any enemy infantry brigades (friendly infantry may be adjacent to enemy cavalry or artillery), one friendly infantry brigade may be moved adjacent to an enemy infantry brigade (as though the moving brigade was in attack mode). No other infantry brigade may move adjacent to enemy infantry in the same turn. This modification does not apply if even a single infantry brigade starts the turn adjacent to enemy infantry. Design Note: This means you can always start something. If the brigade moving adjacent manages to stay there, other brigades can move adjacent in the next turn pursuant to the regular 16.4 restrictions. A dogfight can bring on a battle - Napoleon. 16.5 Passive State (change 2nd sentence of 1st paragraph). Hidden Movement Counters (18.0) may not be created, voluntarily removed, or moved into a hex which can be observed by an enemy unit - within that restriction, HMC's may move normally. 16.6 Panic State (addition). Hidden Movement Counters (18.0) may not be created, voluntarily removed, or moved at all. Exception: HMC's entering the map as reinforcements may move on the turn of entry only, but they may not move into hexes which can be observed by an enemy unit. 22.6 Returning to the Map (new optional rule). This rule may be used in place of the restrictions of rule 8.5. During each friendly movement phase starting 3 turns after the turn in which a unit left the map (whether moved voluntarily by the owning player, or moved by the enemy player due to the loss of unit control, or as a result of retreat after combat), roll one die for the unit. On a roll of "1", the unit returns to the map at entry hex A (1234) for the Confederates, hex F (4000) for the Union. On a successful roll, the unit enters that turn per rule 10.2. Re-entry is voluntary; units which do not re-enter the map still do not count for VP purposes. If a Hidden Movement Counter is moved off the map, it may remain in being or be returned to its box, at the owning player's discretion, regardless of army command status. If it is returned, all units from the HMC are deployed off-map. If an HMC is kept in being off map, just make one roll to return it to the map, not one for each unit in it. A dummy HMC may be kept in being off-map. Terrain Effects Chart Creek Hexsides do reduce the combat differential column (-1); rule 11.5 is correct. Protected Hexsides - the rules reference should read "(see 6.6)." Q&A: Q: 21.2 Trains and Movement: Is the movement of the Train restricted only by HMC's? e.g. can a enemy Cav brigade in LOS of the Train's entry hex prevent it from entering the map or is it only enemy HMC's that impede Train movement? We assume only HMC's but the wording of the rule is questionable. A: No - treat the train as though it were an HMC. If the train/HMC could be observed by an enemy unit (i.e. the HMC has to deploy) - see 14.4/18.2 - the train cannot go there. Q: 18.4: Removing an HMC: Can a side in Restricted, Passive or Panic state move adjacent to a HMC? e.g. assume the HMC is in the middle of a large wood. A: Yes. Q: 17.5 Hidden Movement Counters: Can a HMC suffering from Loss of Unit Control be voluntarily revealed allowing ALL of the subordinate units to be controlled? If the HMC would have moved through the LOS of an enemy unit, the subordinate units must be revealed. Are they ALL suffering from Loss of Unit Control? A: Yes/No - the HMC may be revealed, but that's its movement. If a moving HMC has to deploy, yes, all units are Out of Command. Q: 17.0 Loss of Unit Control: Can a HMC be forced to exit the map via Loss of Unit Control rules? We feel this is a trifle harsh (to say the least) but with the new Return to Map variant rule (in Command #22) it may be justified? Any comments? A: Yes - the new variant is a fix to just that problem. A Dutch guy had 2 HMC's with 11 brigades in position for a Jackson-like flank attack; both got moved off. Bummer!
