Winter Campaign Report By Jeff Williams There are twenty four registered campaigns to date (late June) with three more on the books. Miniature players this year have a full range of options with so far four ancient campaigns, two American civil war, three WWII including two naval, two modern, three science fiction and one Napoleonic campaign to choose from. What has happened to the 7 Years War since Paul move to Queensland? Perhaps we over did it last year when it seemed that half the campaigns were that period. We now need to revive roleplaying and our repertoire will be complete. Following is a list of the registered campaigns to date. THE SASA CAMPAIGN SYSTEM The purpose of the campaign registration system is to: 1. Establish a high level of quality in club campaigns 2. Allow the presentation of awards to the best players at the end of year dinner. CAMPAIGN AWARDS There are four types of campaign awards. They are: 1. Victory points are awarded by umpires to players most successful in achieving their campaign objectives. At the end of the year the player with the most in the categories, miniature, roleplaying, boardgaming and computer, will receive the Victory awards. 2. Code of excellence points are secretly awarded by umpires for each campaign for players who most successfully contribute to the flavour of the campaign and participate in the spirit intended. The SASA code of excellence is used for a guide in awarding the points. These points are collected by the coordinator for the determination of the Code of Excellence award. 3. Best Campaign of the Year is determined by secret vote of the participants at the end of year dinner. 4. War Gamer of the Year is awarded to the club member who achieved the highest aggregate score of all three awards. This is the club's highest honour. The points awarded for each campaign are determined by campaign size with usually a first, second and third awarded. All players wishing to run a campaign should register it with this year's campaign coordinator, JEFF WILLIAMS. He will also answer any questions to do with the campaign award system. System: 15mm miniatures using "Fire & Fury" rules. Umpire: Dean Martlew. Status: Completed. The North were lead to a brilliant victory by the unstoppable legions of the 1st Corps under Major-General Hooker (Jeff Williams). From their first victory when the 2nd and 3rd Divisions smashed their way across the Glenelg River at Dartmoor against implacable Reb forces to the final great conflagration that saw twelve Union Brigades charge and destroy 16 defending Reb Brigades at Heywood the strategic and tactical brilliance of the leader they are now calling the young Napoleon has shone forth. Hooker otherwise known as the Wolf of Portland for his rapid snatching of this valuable prize from under the noses of the Rebs has announced his intention to retire from the Army of the Glenelg and enter Federal Politics where he has set his sights on the Presidency. The army commander Gen McClellan (Stan Mackenzie) remarked that he was very very sad to see such an excellent commander go but the Army's loss was Washington's gain. The Southern Rebs lead by General StoneHead Jackson (B.J) himself seemed to dash hither and thither all over the field but never managed to win a fight despite their obvious courage. It is rumoured that they are gathering their forces to attempt to win back their lost territory. It will be a shame to see them once more waste their youth in such a folly. ARULEN Setting: Mythical Continent of Arulen, Competing Empires. System: 15mm miniatures using DBM rules. Umpire: Jeff Williams. Status: Completed. Next round September. Six proto empires greeted the Summer of 324 BF (Before Fred). The black hearted Minions of Morgul looked longingly from their endless steppes towards the rich, lush and soft lands of the civilised North. A word from Morgul the Merciless sent a huge army of countless horsemen towards the unsuspecting civilised nations. In the sprawling forests of the East the fierce barbarian warriors of the La Tene culture finally united under Stan Le Hombre and took the sleepy town of Regilos without warning and began their march on the capital of the League of Darryl. In the North unaware of the approaching danger the Confederation of Pharazor besieged the fair city of Cannae in a civilised fashion. The Legion of Cannae sallied forth to do battle and were swept from the field by the men of Pharazor. After that the city fell easily. In the south the Kingdom of the Han quickly gobbled up their hapless neighbours. The scene was set for Shakespearian tragedy. The massed spear armies of the League of Darryl thundered into the barbarian ranks of the La Tene and smote them mightily. The forces of the League pursued the barbarians up hill and down dale reducing them to a shadow army. Unfortunately they neglected to recapture lost Regilos in their pursuit. Meanwhile the Morgul and the Han did their dirty deed In the darkness of the night they planned treachery and fell upon hapless Pharazor who's nobles in their last Quinquireme all fled to Egypt in the South. In all of this the Imperium Le Roma just smiled and liberated their neighbours. NOTE: The borders of Arulen have continued to expand and a further 8 empires will be established for the next round to be played in September. All interested emperors please see Jeff Williams.
