Fast, simple, not expensive, little errata, but only reasonably fun. (War game Review)

In his review on BoardGameGeek, Brendan Whyte first turns a critical eye towards the components and rules and lists their shortcomings. Game play fares better: “…the game is fast and quite fun”. Whyte then goes into comprehensive details covering game mechanics and spares no criticism for the game opponent (AI). His discussion concerning solitaire board games vs solitaire computer games is very interesting.

The Boardgames Chronicle tells which are the favorite three games of the series and explains why.

SPQR Bagradas Plains 255 BC Solo Replay

I love Ancients and though complex, the GMT's Great Battles of History Series is probably the best simulation of the era given our current knowledge. The Boardgames Chronicle give us a solo replay of SPQR's Bagradas Plains scenario It is nearly end of the First Punic War and Carthage is almost defeated. The Romans land in North Africa and the Punic leaders, being desperate, hire a Spartan general, Xanthippus, who managed to actually organize the Carthaginian forces and plan for the best use of their assets.
